Sebastian Stan is well known for his portrayal of the villain-turned-good guy in Captain America: Winter Solider, and it doesn’t look like he is has decided to play a hero in his next film either. Stan has joined the cast of the Tonya Harding biopic, I, Tonya, alongside another villain-portraying actor, Suicide Squad‘s Margot Robbie.

The film takes a look at the figure skating controversy between skaters Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan before the 1994 Winter Olympics. Robbie will be playing Harding, while Stan will be playing Jeff Gillooly, Harding’s estranged husband.
This edgy comedy is being described as “absurd, tragic, and hilarious,” which isn’t exactly what you might expect from this behind-the-scenes sort of biopic. However, it will certainly be entertaining when combining the talents of Robbie and Stan. The film was given the go-ahead by Miramax earlier this week and will be written by Steve Rogers.
As the story goes, Gillooly was accused of conspiring with Harding’s bodyguard, Shawn Echkart to break Kerrigan’s leg so she wouldn’t be able to compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. The two hired Shane Stant to hit Kerrigan in the knee, injuring her enough to be eliminated from the competition.
In the end, it as Harding who was eventually eliminated from all competition, as she was banned from the sport after the truth came out. Gillooly testified against Harding, but the judge decided that it was Gillooly that was the mastermind behind the attack and sentenced him to two years in prison.
