The first trailer for Sully, the new film starring Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, has been released online. The film is based on the true events of January 15, 2009, when Sully Sullenberger made an emergency landing of a US Airways flight on the Hudson River, saving a plane packed with 155 people, and the combination of media circus and investigation into Sullenberger that followed.

Clint Eastwood directs the film from Warner Bros. Pictures, which also stars Aaron Eckhart as co-pilot Jeff Skiles, and Laura Linney as Sully's wife Lorraine. The screenplay by Todd Komarnicki is based on the book Highest Duty by Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The official description from Warner Bros. follows:

On January 15, 2009, the world witnessed the "Miracle on the Hudson" when Captain "Sully" Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

Sully is in theaters September 9, 2016.
