The popularity of a fan-made teaser eventually led to pitting The Ring and The Grudge against one another in a new Japanese movie in the spirit of Freddy Versus Jason — but their battle crept into the real world in an unexpected way this week.

Picture the actors being invited to throw out the first pitch in a baseball game…except instead of the actors, they arrive to do it in person. And instead of just tossing a pitch to the catcher, Sadako threw a sixty-mile-an-hour pitch, which Kayako hit into left field for a single, after her son, Toshio, pinch-ran for her.

The surreal and awesome imagery was captured by Nippon Professional Baseball and Deadspin.

This ultimate Japanese horror crossover film pits Sadako, the unstoppable ghost from the Ringu (The Ring) series, against Kayako, the vengeful ghost from the Ju-On (The Grudge) franchise, and her creepy dead son, Toshio. The two evil female spirits come into connect with each other, when a young girl and her friend watch a cursed videotape together in a haunted house.

…How she found a VCR is anybody’s guess, and possibly the scariest thing in the movie.

Sadako vs. Kayako will be released in Japan on June 18, 2016. It will likely be made available on home video in the U.S. given the popularity of the franchises but no official details have yet been released. The project sprang to life after a fan trailer went viral and convinced the studios — Kadokawa and NBC Universal Japan — that there would be demand for such a project.
