Wolf Man will be an additional installment in Universal’s nascent shared monster movie universe. Universal made the late decision to make Luke Evans’ Dracula Untold the first installment of that universe, but the decision went mostly unnoticed. The studio is now hitching their hopes to the Tom Cruise-led The Mummy reboot to make a strong first impression for the concept.

The rumors come from a Deadline report about Johnson producing a film adaptation of Jay Longino’s martial artist graphic novel Son of Shaolin. The report claims the rumors are “persistent,” but offers no further details on the Wolf Man reboot project or Johnson’s potential involvement.

Johnson already has a pretty full schedule. He’s set to appear in Fast & Furious 8 and the sequel to San Andreas. He’s also been cast as the lead in Shane Black’s Doc Savage movie and as Black Adam in DC Films’ Shazam. He’ll also star in the upcoming Baywatch movie, the Jumanji remake and in a film based on the arcade video game Rampage, and will return for two more Journey movies. He’s also lending his voice to the animated feature Moana, and stars in HBO’s Ballers series. His latest is Central Intelligence, a comedy with Kevin Hart.

Principal photography on The Mummy began in early April in Oxford, United Kingdom. Check out whenThe Mummy and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com’s Movie Release Schedule.
