Here’s the Best Power Rangers Halloween Episodes

The spookiest day of the year is almost upon us, and over the years Power Rangers has given fans plenty of great episodes to celebrate the season with.

Now, this won’t be a comprehensive list of every Halloween-themed episode of the show, as many are simple clip compilations with a Halloween theme. Other episodes are not included because, while they might be spooky and a bit creepy, they aren’t truly Halloween episodes, so they got booted from the list.

A great example of this is “Trick or Treat”, which features classic Power Rangers villain the Pumpkin Rapper. Granted, few things define Halloween like a pumpkin, but nothing else about this episode had to do with Halloween. If we have a “top Power Rangers episodes that make you want a pumpkin spice latte” list though, he will surely be included.

The same goes for “Carlos and the Count”. The Power Rangers Turbo episode is centered around Carlos being turned into a vampire, but again, has nothing to do with Halloween. You could also throw Mighty Morphin‘s “No Clowning Around” into this, but that kind of depends on how creepy you find clowns.

To be fair, even if you don’t find them creepy generally, Pineapple the Clown is not someone you want skulking around. To top it off, he turns into a weird mashup of a pineapple and an octopus.

The most recent Halloween special aired as part of Power Rangers Ninja Steel. The “Grave Robber” episode has the Rangers facing down an evil board game created by Cosmo Royale. The Rangers have to run through a gauntlet of old enemies, but the episode uses unseen footage from the original episodes to create something new.

It’s actually one of the better Halloween celebrations, but it doesn’t quite make the top of the list.

Without further ado, here are the top Power Rangers Halloween specials ever!

“Zedd’s Monster Mash”

The second Mighty Morphin Halloween episode also featured some extensive Halloween festivities, but it upped the ante by also introducing a group of Ranger kids.

Well, not really, and Tommy ends up paying the price. A group of kids in Power Rangers costumes show up to the party, but when Tommy takes them trick-or-treating he is captured by Goldar, and the Ranger kids are revealed to be Z-Putties in disguise.

The Rangers then have to fight several of their former adversaries in Zedd’s Haunted Forest, including the Robogoat, Primator, Rhinoblaster, Snizzard, and Pumpkin Rapper, along with new monsters like the Key Monster and Doomstone.

Having the Pumpkin Rapper back, even if for one episode, makes this really feel like Halloween, doesn’t it?

“The Ghostest With The Mostest”

For Power Rangers Dino Charge, the Rangers unwittingly opened the door for one of their own to be snatched right in front of them, thus creating a fun mystery on the spookiest day of the year.

The Rangers all attend the Amber Beach Dinosaur Museum’s Halloween Party, but Sledge sees it as an opportunity to kidnap one of them and infiltrate their headquarters. He does so with the help of a recently revived Duplicon and a freed Memorella, and they successfully manage to take and impersonate one of the Rangers.

Later on, Kendall manages to discover one of the Rangers is an impostor, and in the best part of the episode interrogates the other Rangers to find out who it is. She’s clearly having some fun with it, and but adding to the episode’s brilliance is Duplicon’s total abandonment of the mission to go trick-or-treating, leading the whole plan to fall apart.

Granted, the actual costumes could’ve been more inspired — everyone goes as ghosts — but overall it’s a great Halloween episode for fans to enjoy.

“Party Monsters”

While “Party Monsters” can be considered a clip episode, it rises above that simple premise to be something truly different.

The episode features a variety of old battles from earlier in the Power Rangers Samurai season, but it switches things up by viewing things from the side of the villains. The episode revolves around the Nighlok afterlife, where the deceased monsters are having a Halloween party, and reflecting on where things went wrong.

While they hate the Rangers, it doesn’t mean they don’t use Power Rangers-themed decorations. Dreadhead can be seen with a Red Ranger Pumpkin, though it does get destroyed after his story.

Other monsters share their stories of failure, but the best part of the episode is probably when the Moogers get to the party, where one has created a cardboard costume of the Samurai Megazord.

This was a completely original story (not based on Super Sentai), and it found a novel way to present a clip show without it feeling lazy. As such, it is a must view for any Power Rangers fan.

“Life’s A Masquerade”

The original Power Rangers Halloween special is still one of the best, and actually, features a full-on Halloween party to boot.

The Rangers must take on a Frankenstein monster as Rita attempts to mine materials to make a Super Putty. Fortunately, Billy’s Sherlock Holmes outfit is for more than looks, and he discovers what she’s planning, ultimately helping the Rangers take down her latest creation.

One of the best parts of the episode though is Alpha-5, who uses the Halloween party as an excuse to come down and hang out amongst the Rangers, and turns out to be quite the ladies man as a result.

Tommy throws everyone for a loop by coming as the same Frankenstein monster the Rangers just defeated, but in his defense, he was hanging in a net the whole time, so it really isn’t his fault.

If that wasn’t enough, the episode is worth it solely for Billy’s changed up morphin’ declaration “it’s time for molecular transmutation.”

Ah Billy, never change.

“It Came From Angel Grove”

“It Came From Angel Grove” is probably the biggest Halloween spectacle in Power Rangers history, going all out for the spooky season.

The episode is told from the point of view of Adam (Black Ranger) who falls asleep to one of his favorite horror movies, The Bride of Hackensack.

He wakes up to a world where the Machine Empire managed to take over the planet. Not only that, but they’ve managed to brainwash his fellow Rangers, and it’s up to Adam to collect several special items for a sorcerer to turn the world back to the way it was.

The episode is in all black and white and features several homages to classic horror films and characters. Eventually, Adam awakes to find it was all a nightmare, and when the Rangers propose watching an encore of the film, Adam politely declines.
