It sounds like humans and Vulcans won't be the only founding species of the Federation of Planets to appear on Star Trek: Discovery.

ComicBook.com caught up with Star Trek: Discovery showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg at New York Comic Con and asked them about the possibility of seeing some more classic Star Trek aliens, such as the Andorians and the Tellarites, in future episodes of the prequel series.

While the showrunners stopped short of giving a definitive answer, they hinted pretty heavily that these Federation co-founders would be popping up in the near future of the series.

"Let's just say this: I love Andorians a lot," Harberts teased. "I love the color blue. And I think Tellarites are pretty cool."

"Yeah, I do too," Berg chimed in.

"So, we may not go to those planets, but we may just see some of those characters," Harberts continued. "They do belong to the Federation."

Harberts and Berg certainly make it sounds like Andorians and Tellarites are on the docket for the first season of Star Trek: Discovery. Now the question becomes whether they'll get a full visual redesign the way the Klingons of the series did.

The Tellarites and the Andorians were first introduced into the Star Trek universe in Star Trek: The Original Series. The Tellarites and the Andorians, along with humans and Vulcans, were responsible for forming first the Coalition of Planets in response to the Babel Crisis and then later the Federation of Planets, as chronicled in detail in Star Trek: Enterprise, so it makes sense for them to be present and quite influential at the time that Star Trek: Discovery takes place.

Considering the damage that the Klingons could do to all species who have joined the Federation, it stands to reason that the Federation's founders would want their voices heard as wartime decisions are being made.

New Star Trek: Discovery episodes become available to stream Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS All Access.
