Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first of Disney/Lucasfilm’s new stand-alone films, live-action movies that are set outside of the “Episode” movie structure that largely follows the Skywalker family. The story for Rogue One is born from the crawl at the start of the original Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
“It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire,” the opening crawl read. “During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.”
Rogue One tells the story of those Rebel spies, as seen in the trailer.
