The much-anticipated film is the first of the “Star Wars Story” movies, stand-alone features that tell the stories outside of the main episodic adventure of the “Saga” films. This one takes place just before Episode IV – A New Hope, telling the story of the band of Rebels that stole the plans to the first Death Star and dealt the Empire its first significant loss, as described in the opening crawl of the first film.
The new trailer talked about the “major weapons test” of the Death Star. It showed a much more personal look at the perils of the Empire than we’ve seen before in a Star Wars film. We saw and heard Kaytoo, the new droid voiced by Alan Tudyk talk. And finally, we saw a quick shot from behind of Darth Vader.
Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards, and stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO, Ben Mendelsohn as villain Director Orson Krennic, and the return of James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader. The film hits theaters December 16, 2016, and you can find all the latest news at our Rogue One hub.
