A blessed Life Day to you all! Yes, the terrible made up holiday created for the terrible Star Wars Holiday special in 1978 has its anniversary today, and various folks have, naturally, been tweeting about it. That includes William Shatner, who likes to keep the Star Trek/Star Wars rivalry going every once in awhile, but always in good fun.

Today, he tweeted to Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) with a little jab: "Happy Anniversay of Life Day! 38 years ago today! 2 hours of my life! #poof! #gone!" Of course, there were some emojis at the end to make sure eveyone knew this was friendly.

Well, friendly or not, Mayhew wasn't going to let Captain Kirk ruin Life Day - or at least he wasn't going to let him have the last word. The actor, who has played Chewbacca in all three Star Wars trilogies now, responded almost immediately with a burn of his own. He went after a sore spot for Star Trek fans, the fifth motion picture.

"Thank you Bill!" Mayhew wrote. "And the same to you! #2hours #poof #StarTrekVTheFinalFrontier #IKnowTheFeeling #AtLeastYouGetRoyalties"

The jovial twitter war ended there, most likely, and it's always fun to see a pair of legends interact this way. Mayhew celebrated Life Day earlier today, tweeting out a picture of Wookiees honoring the day. It was as goofy as you'd imagine.

A word of advice for Mr. Shatner - he should probably let things lie from here. After all, you should always let the wookiee win.

Peter Mayhew will return for Star Wars: Episode VIII, likely sharing the role of Chewbacca once again with Joonas Suotamo, who doubled for him in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Mayhew has struggled with knee problems for much of his adult life, limiting his mobility, and the younger actor stepped in to help with the more action-intensive scenes. No details about their Episode VIII roles have been officially confirmed, however. The film is currently in post-production for release December 15, 2017, directed and written by Rian Johnson and continuing the stories of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and more characters old and new as the Skywalker Saga drives ever forward.

The Star Wars holiday special was only shown once on television, and has no legal distribution.
