Bodhi Rook Redeemed
There’s something we love about a comeback, or a tale of redemption. Former Imperial pilot Bodhi Rook has that moment here. You can tell that Bodhi has a lot of pain in his eyes from the very first time we see him, looking for Saw Gerrera in the desert of Jedha. His moment of redemption, getting the cable connected and the communicae out to the Rebel fleet, is a moment of beauty. The simple line that implies a much bigger story between him and Galen as well, “This is for you, Galen,” as his life and fight comes to a close, like the best lines inย Star Wars history, tells a story all on its own. The history books will remember you as a hero, Bodhi Rook.

The Rebel Fleet Attacks
In arguably the best space battle inย Star Wars history, the Rebel Alliance fleet coming to the aid of the Rogue One crew is moment after moment of excitement. We could probalby have done a “Five best moments in theย Rogue Oneย space battle” to be honest. There’s the Ghost fromย Star Wars Rebels flying around amidst X-wings and Y-wings, taking shots at TIE fighters. There’s the shot of an entire garrison of TIEs coming out of the Shield Gate. There’s the throwbacks to Red and Gold leader, and the death of Red 5.
And then there’s that insane, incredible attack using a hammerhead ship to drive one Star Destroyer into another, and that into the shield gate. Those hammerheads, by the way? The stuff of Legends, coming from the Old Republic era, and brought into canon viaย Rebels. When this movie comes home, that entire battle sequence will be worth watching on repeat just to analyze every shot.

The Team Comes Together
After Jyn Erso’s rousing speech in the war room on Yavin meets a resounding “eh, we’re not sure….” the team comes together to do it anyway. One after another, they declare their intentions to Jyn Erso, topped off by some hilarity from K-2SO.
“I’m with you, Jyn,” the droid says. And as she puffs up her chest and starts to smile… “Cassian said I have to.” Perfect.

Chirrut Versus Stormtroopers
This scene just doesn’t get old. We saw it teased in the trailers and featurettes, press screened it in the Skywalker Sound theater, then I’ve seen it in theaters twice, and it just gets cooler every single time. The blind former temple guard Chirrut รmwe marches confidently into a group of Stormtroopers until he’s surrounded. When they’re about to attack, he focuses on the sounds around him, shifts slightly, and goes to work. Dodging blaster fire, slamming his staff into their vulnerable joints, he systematicallyย destroys the entire squad. What’s even better is he’s so comfortable and at ease, he even quips Spider-Man style during the fight. “Oh, is your foot okay?” Yeah, we agree with Gareth Edwards – we could watch Donnie Yen do this all day.

Vader Unleashed!
Darth Vader’sย badassery at the end of the movie is best summed up by Tarkin, who says simply as a throwaway line, “No, Lord Vader will handle the fleet.” Yes, he literally has enough faith in Vader’s abilities to say, “This ONE GUY is going to take on the Rebel Alliance fleet” and be confident that he’ll get the job done.
And Vader very nearly does. In an incredible sequence, he makes his incursion onto the Mon Cala starship, and starts to cut down the Rebels who are trying to transfer the Death Star plans off the ship. Lightsaber ignited, he slashes, deflects, force chokes, crushes, throws, and stabs his way through an elite group of Rebels like they are nothing more than a bunch of trusting younglings in the Jedi Temple (that’s aย Revenge of the Sithย reference, y’all). It’s terrifying, and helps to further cement Vader’s status as the ultimate badass ofย Star Wars. Here’s hoping we have years to come of more.
