Although it feels like it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, it’s only been a week since the announcement came that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were leaving the Han Solo spin-off film behind, with the eventual reveal that Ron Howard would finish the rest of the shoot. The directors made a statement on the matter, but with rumors swirling, fans have been wanting any additional information that could shed light on how things went down. Thanks to social media, Miller was able to post a tweet that both let fans know he was doing fine while also referencing the original Star Wars.

Considering social media can now give fans a direct line of communication to their favorite filmmakers, we can only assume that Miller was subjected to a slew of inquiries and comments, both positive and negative, about he and Lord parting ways with Lucasfilm.
What was most likely an attempt to let his fans know that this wasn’t a severe blow to his wellbeing, Miller calmed many fears with his “situation normal” comment.

Additionally, the phrase is something said by Han Solo in the original film when he, Luke, and Chewbacca attempt to infiltrate the detention level to rescue Princess Leia. After the trio has to fire their way through a series of Death Star guards, Han hops on the communicator to reply to inquiries of what the commotion was.
Han feigned his best calm voice and assured the voice on the other end, “Uh, everything is under control. Situation normal.”
Earlier in the day, Miller also made sure to promote another filmmaker’s latest movie, with Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver hitting theaters tomorrow.

What makes Miller’s tweet in support of Wright all the more interesting is that Wright was one of the names being thrown around to finish the Han Solo film, as he has a similar frenetic and comedic style to Lord and Miller, which would make him a likely replacement.

Another interesting similarity between Lord and Miller and Wright is that in the case of Marvel’s Ant-Man, Wright had been attached for years to develop the project, only to leave the film before shooting due to creative differences. This means that all filmmakers had to part ways from Disney-owned properties, regardless of fan enthusiasm for the pairings.
The Han Solo spin-off movie is still slated to debut in theaters May 25, 2018.
The Han Solo spinoff is filming now under director Ron Howard for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
