A new photo from the film reveals one such location: Canto Bight, a casino city located on the planet Cantonica. The new photo shows Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Marie Tran) hanging out with some of the city’s high rollers.
Take a look at the photo below (via Empire):
Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson says that he created Canto Bight to be, in a way, the opposite of the Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope and Jabba’s palace from Return of the Jedi.
“I wanted a new environment that was like dunking your head in a cool bath of water, right in the middle of the movie,” Johnson explains. “Apart from the prequels, all the touchstones that make something feel like Star Wars have to do with griminess and dirt. I wanted to do something completely different.”
Finn and Rose’s trip to Canto Bight isn’t for fun. It’s for the action-packed “dark mission” that Boyega has previously teased for Finn in The Last Jedi. Rumor has it that Finn’s mission will see him and Rose venturing behind enemy lines and into First Order territory to accomplish a vital task for the Resistance.
Tran’s Rose Tico is a maintenance worker for the Resistance. She apparently takes on a role in the field as she teams up with Finn to help him accomplish whatever mission it is that he has undertaken.
