With less than a month until the release of The Last Jedi, fans are still relatively in the dark about Laura Dern‘s character and where her allegiances might lay. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress claims she’ll leave an impact on the Resistance while avoiding the reveal of whether that is a good or bad thing.

“She enters the Resistance to shake things up,” the actress revealed. “You have to sort of figure out who’s side you’re on or what your feelings are about her.”

These thoughts echo a common theme running through most of the film, as it’s implied that the line between right and wrong, good and bad is blurred for most characters.

Another character who will have a big impact on the Resistance is Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, who is poised to climb the ranks of the organization to become a pivotal player. Because of this, EW had Isaac and Dern share the cover of an upcoming issue.

“It’s definitely appropriate that they’ve paired us because a lot of the friction and conflict comes between Poe and that relationship with Admiral Holdo, who is this person that’s been โ€” at least temporarily โ€” put in charge of the Resistance,” Isaac pointed out to the magazine.

In the novel Leia: Princess of Alderaan, readers learned that Admiral Holdo might be a more eccentric addition to the saga.

According to the novel, Amilyn Holdo was part of the Apprentice Legislature along with Leia, with the two growing to become quite good friends. Holdo is from the planet Gatalenta, whose citizens are known to dress plainly “except for those scarlet cloaks.” Lucasfilm has already released character posters in which many of the characters are wearing bright red cloaks, which could hint at the characters heading to the planet at some point in The Last Jedi.

Before becoming Vice Admiral, Holdo was painted as an eccentric character, regularly changing her hair color and speaking strangely. From Leia’s perspective, Holdo’s manner of speaking was so strange that she referred to it as “Holdo-speak.”

When speaking with Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, Johnson explained of Holdo, “The secrecy does have a purpose in that part of the fun with Laura’s character, with Admiral Holdo, is figuring out what her relationship is to everybody as you go along through the movie.”

“I don’t want to tip the hat too much, but I will say that the heat is immediately turned up on the Resistance,” Johnson added. “Everybody is put in a pressure cooker right away, and relationships crack and strain under that pressure. That was really interesting to me, the notion of putting this small army under a lot of external pressure and showing some of the results within the Resistance itself.”

We’ll learn more about Holdo when The Last Jedi debuts in theaters on December 15th.
