The actress gave a moving speech about the important job that Hollywood has in this world, and how much they entire industry needed to band together in today’s trying times. She also recognized how much movies and TV can influence our world in a positive way and called for everyone to help make our world a better place.
The entire speech was beautiful, but she ended it with a quote from her dear friend, a beloved star that the world lost in 2016.
That, of course, was Carrie Fisher.
The actress and writer, best known for her role as Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, passed away in December. It has been a sad time for all of those who looked up to her, but Meryl chose to remember one of her late friend’s memorable quotes.
At the end of her speech, with tears in her eyes, Streep mentioned her dear friend Carrie. She said that Carrie told her this quote, and she never forgot it:
“Take your broken heart, make it into art.”
The quote sums up performers like Fisher and Streep, as they give all they have to their performances. Streep used the quote as a call to inspire all of those in the industry.
