Now writer-director Rian Johnson is getting in on the tease fun, with a new image from the edit bay that will surely excite Star Wars fans. While it’s nothing but the title (for now), it is the very opening shot of the film, after the fanfare blares, as the opening crawl begins to roll.
For Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Disney and Lucasfilm were notoriously close-to-the-vest and secretive, trickling out only the tiniest bits of information almost all the way up to release. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, aside from holding back the title, went for the most part the opposite route. Rian Johnson regularly shared images on social media from the set, with vehicles like the A-wing making an appearance, more Maz Kanata motion capture, and even the first shot he made of the film – a shot that mirrors the final scene of The Force Awakens. That’s because this movie will make history as the first Star Wars to pick up literally at the moment the last one left off.
Now, Johnson and his editing team are in the edit bay, continuing to work on the cut, as John Williams continues the score and ILM continue the effects. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is coming to life.
