While these props don’t give away any new details about what to expect from the latest installment in the Star Wars saga, Lucasfilm’s presence at the convention could result in some exciting announcements.
In recent years, Lucasfilm has opted to skip large panels at San Diego Comic-Con, as Star Wars Celebration and the D23 Expo have given the studio the opportunity to debut a variety of different footage and make announcements. However, rumors have been circulating that this Monday will see not only the release of a new trailer, but this trailer will coincide with tickets going on sale.
The first trailer for The Last Jedi debuted at Star Wars Celebration back in April and fans have been dying for a new trailer ever since. One fan took to Twitter to ask Mark Hamill when a new trailer would debut, with the star teasing that the fan should tune in to Monday Night Football on October 9 for “no reason in particular.”
Since these comments seemed to make it clear a new trailer would debut during the program, Hamill then deleted the tweet and continued to make jokes that he was merely a fan of the two teams playing that night.
Similarly, a trailer for The Force Awakens was debuted in mid-October on the program, with an official poster debuting online a day prior. This poster was accompanied by news that tickets would go on sale following the debut of the trailer.
Were Lucasfilm following a similar model, we might get a poster on Sunday, followed by a new trailer and ticket pre-sales opening up Monday.
Additionally, there is a panel at New York Comic Con this weekend that honors Mark Hamill, so it’s possible that, with the trailer coming so shortly after the convention, Lucasfilm could potentially surprise attendees with a trailer screening.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, premieres in theaters December 15.
