This winter, fans of the Star Wars franchise will get to experience a new part of the on-going Skywalker Saga thanks to Lucasfilm. The studio will debut the eighth Star Wars film following the successful launch of Rogue One, a breakout standalone flick. The new Star Wars title will reintroduce fans to heroes like Rey and Poe as the Resistance continues to push back against the First Orders grip on the galaxy.
When Star Wars: The Last Jedi makes its debut, fans will get a first-look at new characters and place. Luke Skywalker will finally get some dialogue in the new film, and other stars will make their debut in yet-named roles. As for previous characters, staples like Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma have been rumored to get new costumes for quite some time. And, now, the folks over at Making Star Wars are sharing new details about the reported changes.

When it comes to Kylo Ren, the sullen son of Han Solo and Leia Organa is said to be seeking out Darth Vader for fashion advice. Last year, reports spread that the Knight of Ren would don a cape in The Last Jedi similar to what his grandfather used to wear. According to Making Star Wars’ editor-in-chief Jason Ward, “The times I have seen Kylo from The Last Jedi the cape is certainly modeled after Darth Vader’s cape but it is still inconclusive if it is actually a cape Darth Vader wore or just a stylistic influence.”
As for Captain Phasma, the intimidating character is said to get a lethal new staff in the next film. She will even be accompanied by new comrades known as Executioner Stormtroopers, and the site says she’ll be flocked by two attendees at times. The suit for the soldiers looks very similar to the original uniform for Stormtroopers, but their helmet does have one alteration. A singular black stripe is said to run down the length of the helmet’s back.
In the past, Making Star Wars has previously reported on the rumored costume changes for Kylo Ren. A prior article states that the man’s new cape “is said to be like the one Darth Vader wears in The Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi. However, the cape does not have the same chain clasp. It is not entirely clear if this cape is one Kylo made to resemble that of his grandfather’s or if he actually procured one of Darth Vader’s capes that probably fell into the hands of collectors in the Star Wars galaxy.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
