'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Trailer Has Huge Easter Egg For 'Return Of The Jedi'

The latest trailer for the upcoming Star Wars movie is packed with tons of hints and teases for the return of Luke Skywalker, but there's one Easter Egg fans might have missed if thy weren't paying very close attention.

One of the early scenes in the new promo for Star Wars: The Last Jedi shows Luke taking his lightsaber from Rey, picking up from the closing moments of The Force Awakens, while referencing a moment from Return of the Jedi.

When Luke stretches out his hand, he reveals damage to his cybernetic prosthetic that he sustained while rescuing his friends on Jabba's sail barge, indicating that he truly subscribes to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality.

In what has been established as a rite of passage in the Star Wars universe, Luke Skywalker's right hand was severed in a climactic lightsaber duel with Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back. To top it all off, he lost his lightsaber and learned Vader is his father (and the person who constructed said lightsaber).

But Luke was back and better than ever in the last film of the trilogy, with a repaired robotic hand covered in flesh and with a brand new green lightsaber.

During his attempt to rescue Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO from the clutches of Jabba the Hutt, Luke's brand new hand was shot by a blaster. And instead of repairing the damage, he simply covered it up with a glove.

Though the flesh is gone in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the same robotic hand remains, and you can clearly see the same damage from that shot in the early moments of the new trailer.

So what does this say about Luke? Is he just a resourceful man making due with the tools he has? Or is he lazy and unwilling to make maintain his things? Hopefully we learn the answer to this important mystery when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
