On Fear the Walking Dead, Garcia plays Luciana. The character was introduced in Fear’s second season as a key character in Tijuana’s Colonia community. She was instantly beloved by fans as her hardened attitude and impressive survival skill set were showcased right off the bat.
Despite expectations of stunt doubles, most of those stunts fans saw from Luciana were actually Garcia.
“I never fought before. I have two older brothers and they love me. I was never one of those girls who fought with their brothers growing up,” Garcia said. “I never knew how to fight or anything so when I realized I had to use these long choreographies, like throwing things and killing people and putting them in the wall and blood, I didn’t know how it was gonna work out!”
“They called me in and we have a great stunt department and they were like, ‘Oh, we want to rehearse with you tomorrow,’” Garcia said. “I thought it was gonna be just a couple of faces and how I wanted to see it or see the stunt double do it. No, Brandon, I had to it! So, give me two knives and a couple choreographies and I’m like, ‘I always wear point shoes! I’ve never done this before!’”
As fans saw in Fear the Walking Dead‘s second season, Garcia’s stunts made Luciana one of the toughest characters on the series! As for whether or not she will make a return to the series in its third season, Garcia cannot confirm or deny, but she can tease what such a moment might be like.
“For Luciana, what matters to her is justice,” Garcia said. “Before she left, she felt that on that Ranch there was not real justice. She started seeing everything coming before it started. That’s how Luciana is. She’s always three steps ahead and she can always sense danger.”
“She actually comes back for, like, ‘I told you!’”
