‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Recap With Spoilers: La Serpiente

Madison, Strand, and Qaletaca cruise down a highway in their truck. They are 30 kilometers from Tijuana. Qaletaca insists they won’t go there and Strand promises they are not. After a while, they come upon a herd of walkers blocking the road near abandoned cars. Strand, however, has a plan. He tosses a beeping key on the side of the road and the noise attracts the infected. Slowly, Qaletaca pushes the truck forward and literally through the cars.

After driving a considerable distance, the trio get out of the truck and chain the fence of a junkyard behind them. Strand searches for a particular car. He hustles to it, moves it, and informs the group they will be traveling through the sewer beneath it. This is how Strand got here in the first place. He moves the cover and enters first, suggesting they hold their breath on the way down. Qaletaca is reluctant but ultimately follows Madison.

Down in the sewage drain, Strand lights the way with a flashlight as the others follow his lead.

The trio of survivors journey through the sewer system. They are walking beneath the infected, who are stepping on the grate above them. 

Suddenly an infected approaches the group. Madison wants to take the small group out but Strand insists there may be more in the dark behind it. They come to a crossroads and Strand leads the way, revealing he is looking for an eye logo which are laid out by the Proctors. He finds it and continues.

Down further, Madison comes across a bloated walker blocking the way. It is stuck. Madison kills it with a hatchet but realizes they are going to have to chop it up and remove it piece by piece. She starts with its head then it’s arm. After pulling too much, water starts to flood the sewer.

Elsewhere, Daniel rushes back to the dam in the passenger seat of a Poragua truck. He shoots back at the people who are chasing him.

Back at the dam, they rush inside. Daniel is questioned for shooting at the group. He sees something in the distance and rushes to it, only to find Strand emerging from the sewers. He is not happy to see him but Madison emerges and asks Daniel to lower the gun. Qaletaca lowers his first. Madison is surprised to see Daniel is alive. He tells her he is better now before asking about Ofelia. “She’s alive, Daniel,” Madison tells him. He is reluctant to trust her because of Strand but Madison reveals Qaletaca helped her and now they need Daniel’s help. They need water.

Daniel holsters his gun and brings them inside.

He insists on talking to Lola first. The gang waits outside and sees an argument ensue through the glass. Madison wants to handle the negotiation with Daniel, insisting she knows Daniel will help them. Moments later, Daniel invites them inside. Lola offers Madison a seat while the men in the room remain standing. “Our camp is running out of water but we have resources that can benefit you,” she says. Lola, however, is completely disinterested. “We have no water to spare,” she tells Madison.

“We have no water for you,” Lola said.

Madison stands up to tell Lola of the threats she will be facing. Lola insists, there is nothing left to discuss. She offers refuge for the night.

Later, Lola talks with Daniel. She asks about Ofelia. Daniel tells her they have her at their camp and he believes their word. Lola questions whether or not he is going to go back with Madison to see Ofelia but he swears his allegiance to Lola. 

Elsewhere, Qaletaca talks with Strand. He tells him when there is no water for the Ranch, his side will come first, and Madison’s family will be kicked out to the desert. 

Later, Madison talks with Lola. Lola insists she has had enough trouble trying to trade with other communities. If she trades with Madison, there will be bloodshed. She is ready to fight against that. Madison pleads with her, for her children, but Lola doesn’t buy in. She does, however, offer Madison a place at the dam to live and work. Madison tells Lola it is impossible to do right by everyone and walks off.

The injured man from the attack earlier is treated in the infirmary. Strand offers his help. They don’t want to trust Strand, though, because Daniel calls him “the snake.” Strand starts getting to know them, though. They debate different outlooks of the world. Strand rules, “Uneasy lays the head that wears the crown.”

In another room, Qaletaca is eating. Daniel thanks him for caring for Ofelia before questioning what she does at the Ranch. “She walks with me, as a soldier,” Qaletaca tells him. Daniel insists he did not raise a soldier. Qaletaca informs Daniel that Ofelia saved his people by poisoning an enemy group — deeply upsetting Daniel. 

In their rooms, Madison and Strand have a moment together. Strand suggests she leaves the Ranch. Madison, however, insists the dam is not safe because Lola refuses to defend it. They open up more deeply. Madison reveals how much she has done for the kids and how much they have seen. Strand wants her to remove the kids from the picture for a moment and think about what she wants. 

“I come from country, Victor. That Ranch has problems to spare but it’s the closest thing to what I know. It’s where I wanna be,” she tells him before asking what future he sees.

“One where I don’t fail my friends,” Strand said.

In the headquarters of the dam, Lola and Daniel debate plans for preparing for attacks. Lola what’s to continue providing water to the people but Daniel wants to be more careful. Lola criticizes Daniel for having killed. He tells her, though, that these people will attack and drag them out of the dam. She doesn’t budge. If he won’t buy into what she’s doing, he can leave. “We are on schedule for our water run this afternoon,” he replies.

On the edge of the dam, Strand is joined by Daniel while watching people load the water truck. “I don’t know what you’re thinking but I’m sure that serpent brain of yours is coiling around an idea,” he said. Strand plays dumb. “Whatever it is, if it benefits both of us, I’ll look the other way. If not, I’ll have you in my sights.”

Daniel walks away singing “down with the water queen” in Spanish.

Qaletaca leaves the dam. Madison questions where he is going but he insists she lied and there will be consequences. “The Ranchers must leave,” he said. “They can leave peacefully or we can force them. Your choice.” He refuses to reason with her and leaves. 

Daniel and Madison catch up. Daniel tried to change Lola’s mind but couldn’t but he won’t abandon her because she saved his life. Madison, however, questions whether the truth of it is Daniel being afraid to face his daughter. “Ofelia will always be my daughter, no matter what that man had her do,” Daniel said.

Outside, Strand stands a good distance from the water truck. He calls Madison back and, just as he does, the truck explodes. Fire and water pour out of it. Men rush towards it with guns. Infected, burning in flames, stumble towards the dam. Strand and Madison look on.

They walk past the wreckage of the truck putting down infected. Daniel aids their efforts. Lola is down there, now. Daniel says all but, “I told you so.” People are heard chanting at the dam as they approach. Daniel calls Strand and Madison over so the crew can fix the fence. 

Inside, Lola is finally will to bargain. She is going to trade water for guns and ammo. Daniel writes down exactly what they need. Madison can deliver the demands and asks for 10,000 gallons of water per week and a truck full now. Madison rules the trading post Bazar will be the meeting point. Lola says Ofelia must attend the meeting. 

Madison and Strand head to the truck. She thanks Daniel before leaving. “Be careful, a friendly face will slip a knife in your back when it’s turn,” he tells her. “I know this.”

They drive down the road in their truck full of water. Madison asks how Strand pulled off making the truck explode. “Trick I saw in an old movie,” he said. “I had my doubts!” She thanks him. “You would’ve done the same for me,” he insists. She jokes back with him before the two come upon Qaletaca walking back alone. 

“Thirsty?” Madison asks him. Qaletaca grins and gets in the truck.
