The Walking Dead executive producer and VFX genius Greg Nicotero shared a new post to Instagram, offering an update for fans eager to see the Season 8 premiere. Nicotero directs the still untitled episode. In the post, the shot of Rick Grimes standing in the sunlight armed with a rifle as seen in the Season 8 trailer is on display but the extra details reveal how close to finished the episode is.
“TWD 801,” the top corner of the screen reads. “Updated Picture To WB 091117.” This means the most recent cut of the episode as Nicotero sits to finalize it was submitted Monday. While it may not be the final cut of Episode 100, the stage of editing indicates it might be.
“Mixing the 100th episode of The Walking Dead in Burbank,” Nicotero wrote. Audio mixing typically is one of the final stages in editing and often requires a locked picture — or very close to it.

“Damn it’s an amazing piece of television,” Nicotero writes. “Can’t wait for it to be out there!”
Also worth noting, the top right corner of the screen Nicotero is watching on has a time code for the video. “01:00:31:16,” it reads. This is not necessarily an indication of the show running for more than hour. More likely is the fact that this is the first 31 seconds of The Walking Dead‘s eighth season as most editing platforms will feature an “01” to indicate the first hour.
The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017. The Season 8 premiere will mark 100 episodes overall for the popular AMC series. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
