The moment Rick woke up with a beard in a bed with flowers by its side in the final moments of The Walking Dead‘s Season Eight trailer, fans took the possibilities in every direction to search for answers. Those fans are going to have to keep waiting, however, even after the show returns and reveals more of the scene.

The Season Eight premiere will focus on Rick Grimes and his taking back of control of both Alexandria and the show itself, but what’s going on in that particular “Old Man Rick” scene won’t be revealed according to showrunner Scott Gimple.
“We will not get the definitive answer as to what that’s about in the premiere,” Gimple told TVLine.
Fans of the The Walking Dead comics, however, may already have a pretty good idea of what’s going on in the sequence.
Luckily, Gimple’s talk of Season Eight didn’t stop there. “This season is very much about them fighting back,” Gimple said. “Fighting can be scary, and there’s uncertainty to it, but in and of itself, it is a hopeful act.”
Gimple’s remarks run parallel to the recently released Season Eight synopsis.
“Last season, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet,” the synopsis starts. “With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be.”
Two paragraphs later, the synopsis changes its tone.
“This season, Rick brings ‘All Out War’ to Negan and his forces,” it reads. “The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless — but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.”
For fans hungry for more Walking Dead, they’ll get a small fix in the form of a Season Eight preview special airing on AMC ahead of Fear the Walking Dead‘s upcoming midseason premiere.
The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead returns September 10th. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017. The Season Eight premiere will mark 100 episodes overall for the popular AMC series. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
