Today during the Marvel: Cup o' Joe panel at New York Comic Con, the publisher announced that a murderer's row of writers including Brian Michael Bendis, Sam Humphries, Gerry Duggan and Kelly Sue DeConnick will tackle a new event titled Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: Black Vortex, leading into Marvel's next big cosmic event.

The story will play out over the course of Alpha and Omega bookend one-shots and issues of titles like All-New X-MenGuardians of the Galaxy, Legendary Star-LordNovaCyclops and Captain Marvel.

In the recent past, the X-Men have returned to space more than usual, with storylines like The Trial of Jean Grey and Marc Guggenheim's spacebound X-Men arc, as well as a Cyclops ongoing that features the title character on a starship with his space-pirate father Corsair. Here, former Nova artist Ed McGuinness will get to take a swing at a huge cast including Star-Lord, Kitty Pryde, Beast, Storm, Cyclops, Nova, the Guardians of the Galaxy and other X-Men in Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex Alpha.

The heroes will reportedly face off against villains including Thane and The Brood...but something bigger may be at play that will pit the heroes against one another as well as they struggle for control of a force capable of bringing out their full potential and realizing their deepest desires.

Look for the first issue in February 2015.
