Adding The Defenders Into Avengers: Infinity War Is Tricky Says Co-Director

Brazilian entertainment website, Super Interessante, chatted with Captain America: Civil War co-director Anthony Russo about including The Defenders — Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and Iron Fist (TBA) to his next Marvel project(s), Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2.

Note: Russo's responses were published in Portuguese and have been translated to English.

"It's complicated," Russo said. "When we start to serialize the telling of stories is difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but is more complicated. It is a smaller version of the problem that exists when thinking that Fox has the rights to certain characters, Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man (which has the right held by Sony) was possible!"

Before everyone starts clamoring for Marvel's street-level superhero team to be included in Avengers: Infinity War we should wait and see how they gel in their future Netflix series. Heck, we still don't even know who will be playing Iron Fist/Danny Rand in his series nor do we know who is going to be the showrunner. Point? Be patient.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 arrives in theaters May 4, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 will arrive May 3, 2019.

OR how about if/when the Avengers leave Earth to fight Thanos somewhere in space in infinity war pt 2...Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, & Iron Fist are the only ones left to DEFEND the earth.

How about DD, Cage make a cameo in Civil war or is that to much to ask? Because its basically Avengers 3 at the moment with Spider-Man.

  1. Ok, but what about QUAKE?!

  2. it is not complicated, it is just lazy on the people in charge. If the comic book can write out there years of comics and include guest stars than the writers of the the Marvel films could do the same. During Infinity War there should be EVERY Marvel hero they have created in this. This is what they have been building up to so why not go out with a BIG Bang. The problem the film department forgets the reason Disney created the TV department, to keep marvel fans talking about the MCU in between the movies and the help set up events for the next movie.
