Scarlet, a creator-owned title from creators Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, is in development as a TV series at HBO, Bendis announced Friday. Speaking at the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas, he made the announcement.

"I do a book called Scarlet, which is soon to be announced also in our universe of television," Bendis said to the crowd, according to a report by Deadline. "Not announced yet, but HBO. [It's] at the earliest stage; the team around it... will be announced as soon as all are on the same page."

Bendis's co-creation with Michael Avon Oeming, Powers, just had its second season released on Sony's PlayStation Network, and the writer has also worked closely with TV and filmmakers on various Marvel Comics adaptations, including Jessica Jones, a character he co-created with artist Michael Gaydos. Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man, including co-creation (with Sara Pichelli) Miles Morales, a new half-black half-Puerto Rican Spider-Man, has also been adapted to television.

Scarlet began in 2010, published by Marvel's Icon imprint, a selective creator-owned imprint typically reserved for exclusive talent with the publisher. The series stars Scarlet Rue, a young woman in Portland, Oregon who is the unwitting founder of a new revolution against the corrupt government. It has had an erratic publishing schedule, with eight issues released in the last five and a half years.
