Top 10 Fat Supervillains

Recently, Comicbook.com compiled a list of the Top 10 Fat Superheroes, who might want to set getting in shape as their New Year’s resolution for 2009. In the interest of fair play, we decided to take a look at the flip side of the coin. There are a couple of fat supervillains out there that could stand to spend some time on the treadmill.

While overweight superheroes are often parodies and sidekicks, the same cannot be said for overweight supervillains. Some of the most terrifying and powerful supervillains are chubby, like The Blob and The Kingpin. Then again, there is also Toyman and Granny Goodness. Here is our list of the Top 10 Fat Supervillains.

1. The Blob

Non-comic book fans might think of The Blob as a classic horror movie, but to comic book fans The Blob is simply the greatest fat evil mutant of all time. The Blob proves that being fat has its privileges, as he is an unmovable object with his own personal gravity field. With a guest appearance in the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, it’s important that The Blob get in shape.

2. The Kingpin

Wilson Fisk, also known as The Kingpin, was a poor, overweight, unpopular child, who grew up to become New York City’s most powerful crime lord. While the rumor is that even though The Kingpin looks fat, it is really all muscle, we aren’t buying it. The Kingpin might very well be strong, just like a pro-football offensive lineman is strong, but fat is still fat.

3. The Penguin

The Penguin is probably the best known among the general public of all the fat supervillains. He was first introduced over sixty-seven years ago in Detective Comics #58. Burgess Meredith played The Penguin in the Batman television series, and Danny DeVito played The Penguin in Batman Returns, the sequel to the original Batman movie. As much as The Penguin smokes, one might think that would help to suppress his appetite.

4. Egghead

While most might think of Egghead as a villain played by Vincent Price in the sixties Batman television series, it’s actually the Egghead from the Marvel Universe that we are referencing as being overweight. The Marvel Universe Egghead was a sworn enemy of the Ant-Man. Of course, he won’t be losing any weight, because he is apparently dead. Then again, he was apparently dead once before.

5. The Slug

When one becomes a rich and powerful drug lord like The Slug, then one often has their underlings do all the work. The Slug basically just sailed around on his luxury yacht, sitting on his pillows, while managing his criminal empire from afar. Now that he’s in prison though, he should have plenty of time to hit the prison gym, lift some weights, and get in shape.

6. Granny Goodness

When Granny Goodness was younger she was quite the looker, but the older version of Granny Goodness is modeled after Phyllis Diller. Still, it’s not unexpected for a woman, deity, supervillain of her age to put on a little weight. Granny Goodness is one of the New Gods created by the legendary Jack Kirby. Just like fat female superheroes are a rare lot, fat female supervillains are also rare. Granny Goodness is the only woman to make the list.

7. The Clown

Leave it to Todd McFarlane to create a terrifying, fat clown as a supervillain. Ironically enough, The Clown is actually just the human disguise of The Violator, who is a skinny hell-born demon. One could say that The Clown is fat by choice, so it’s doubtful that he has any desire to improve his appearance. In the Spawn movie, The Clown was played by John Leguizamo.

8. Doctor Octopus

After The Penguin, Doctor Octopus is probably the best known fat supervillain to the general public, since he appeared in the second Spider-Man movie. As fat supervillains go, Doctor Octopus is one of the ones that is more stocky than fat. A couple laps around the gym, and he should look rocking in those mechanical arms.

9. Toyman

With as long as Superman has been around, one would think that he would have battled more fat supervillains. Of course, Lex Luthor has struggled with weight problems, but he seems to be in pretty good shape now. Toyman is likely the best known overweight supervillain that Superman has fought.

10. Mojo

Mojo doesn’t have a spine, moves around on a mechanical platform, and is part of a society obsessed with television. No, he is not from the future of our own planet thankfully, but he hails from the planet Mojo World. He is an adversary of the X-Men and Longshot was at one time his slave.
