The Panel Discussions Podcast: David Lapham on Age of Apocalypse, Daniel Corey on Moriarty

This week, having finally (mostly) overcome our hardware problems, Panel Discussions has crawled slowly back to life. Not only will the next episode not be late, but it will be next week as well, touching off a weekly schedule for the foreseeable future.

This week, I spoke with Age of Apocalypse writer David Lapham. Best known for his creator-owned work like Stray Bullets and Young Liars, Lapham has had some success with corporate-owned characters as well. He's written Spider-Man stories and, more recently, was the writer on Deadpool MAX. Now he's stepping into the Age of Apocalypse, an ongoing title set in one of Marvel's more fan-favorite alternate realities, where he'll be taking cues from the super-successful Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender, where these long-out-of-circulation characters and concepts were recently brought back to the fore. I talked to Lapham about the joy and the challenges of writing a book that you enter with so much baggage and so many expectations, and much more. In addition to a recently-announced musical adaptation, the second volume of the trade paperback collections--The Lazarus Tree--is due out next week (you can check out the embedded trailer below). Moriarty is an ongoing, creator-owned monthly series which takes breaks between arcs to give the artist time to catch up and to release trades allowing fans to pick up anything they might have missed. They've just entered onesuch break and before we get another issue of Moriarty, it's entirely possible that Corey will have another exciting announcement or two.
