At today's Marvel: The Next Big Thing panel at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo, the publisher announced the launch of Gambit, a new ongoing series by writer James Asmus and artist Clay Mann. The series will follow the Ragin' Cajun as his role in the Marvel Universe is reexamined. Beginning in August, the series will be an interconnected series of "caper" stories, according to the panelists. Editor Daniel Ketchum, who says it will read like a Gambit movie, said of the character that "When he gets out of trouble, he just gets into more trouble." Asmus told fans that the series, which will feature a Remy LeBeau with an updated costume, will serve to break Gambit out of the X-Men corner of the world and into the larger Marvel Universe. The writer also promises that the series is written to be as accessible as possible to fans who have loved the character--even the '90s animated series version of the character--in the past.
