Bryan Singer Removes Quicksilver Avengers' Reference

Yesterday, director Bryan Singer shocked the comic book fan community when he announced that Evan Peters had been cast as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Singer tweeted, "Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver." Fans and reporters immediately interpreted Bryan Singer's tweet in one of two ways. By referring to The Avengers, one theory was that Bryan Singer was signaling the beginning of some type of shared Marvel Cinematic Universe between 20th Century Fox and Disney. However, another far more sinister theory was that Bryan Singer's tweet was a direct shot at Avengers director Joss Whedon, who had already announced plans to use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers 2. Whether either interpretation is correct remains to be seen, as the most logical explanation might simply be that both 20th Century Fox and Disney have rights to Quicksilver and both plan to use the character in their respective movies. Regardless, director Bryan Singer has now updated his tweet to remove the Avengers reference. Singer's revised tweet reads, "Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver." Now, the speculation begins over why Bryan Singer changed his tweet. There have been rumors that Marvel Studios won't be able to actually use the character names "Quicksilver" or "Scarlet Witch" in the Avengers 2 and will have to refer to them as Pietro and Wanda. Could it be that 20th Century Fox legal had Singer change the tweet because a similar rule applies to them where they can't refer to The Avengers in any official capacity? Or was it just a change by Singer to try to put a rest to fan conspiracy theories that his tweet signaled either a shared universe or the beginning of a Disney/20th Century Fox war?
