Joaquin Phoenix Reportedly In Final Talks To Play Doctor Strange

Collider is reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is in final negotiations to play the lead role in Marvel Studios' upcoming Doctor Strange film.

Rumors of Phoenix's consideration for the role began circulating in July, but there's been no confirmation from Phoenix or Marvel. The long silence left room for another rumor, that Jack Huston was in consideration for the role, to surface, but Collider's report claims that the latter rumor is unfounded.

While some believed that negotiations between Marvel and Phoenix had been abandoned, Collider reports that they have just been a bit drawn out, largely due to Phoenix wanting to be sure that taking a role in a Marvel franchise doesn't limit his ability to pursue other projects.

An official release date for Doctor Strange has not yet been announced, but it will be a part of Marvel Studios' Phase 3 films.
