Kick-Ass star Chloë Grace Moretz is among three big-name young actresses being considered for the role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, while Cyclops will likely be cast with a relative newcomer, TheWrap reports.

The other Jean Grey candidates are reportedly Elle Fanning and Oscar-nomineeHailee Steinfeld, while Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothée Chalamet are up for Cyclops, according to multiple, unnamed sources.

Hardy is a British soap opera actor, best known for his role as Peter Beale on EastEnders. Rowe appeared in Pirate Radio and The Golden Compass but is probably most recognizable for Red Band Society.

Best known for roles on Royal Pains and Homeland, Chalamet most recently appeared in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and Jason Reitman's Men, Women & Children.

TheWrap also said that the Jean Grey role may open up a bit, with some other names being considered -- less seriously so far, but there's a chance Fanning may not even pursue the role.

Fanning played Kiki George in the pilot for ABC's short-lived primetime soap Dirty Sexy Money, but didn't carry that role over to the series -- where it went to Moretz.

20th Century Fox had no comment on the rumors.

The roles were originally played by Famke Janssen and James Marsden, who returned for X-Men: Days of Future Past. While most of the film will take place in the 1980s with younger versions of the characters, it isn't clear whether Janssen and Marsden might return for a small role.
