Hit Fix: If Marvel comes calling do you sign up?
Ava DuVernay: Okay, are we talking about Marvel coming to call? (Hearty chuckle) You think Marvel’s gonna … gonna…
Hit Fix: Why not?
Ava DuVernay: Okay, maybe. I like that! He said, ‘Why not?’ If Marvel comes… Which character do you think?
Hit Fix: Who would you want to direct?
Ava DuVernay: I don’t know, I don’t know enough about Marvel. That would probably be the first step. Figure out what they got over there. But, I’m not a big comic book fan, but I know I love to deconstruct heroes, deconstruct myths. I probably want to do some origin story. You know, where you get to the core of it before they get their powers. I don’t know. I don’t know about Marvel. I know I love to tell all sorts of stories, so I don’t say no to anything. Everything is possible.
Ava DuVernay’s Selma is still playing in theaters. The film was nominated by the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Song.
