Alien Nation Remake In The Works

An update of the cult hit Alien Nation is once again being developed for film.

Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are writing the script for the project, although there is almost no one else officially attached to the project.

The project, based on a film and TV franchise from the '80s, centers on the uneasy relatinoships between humans and aliens who are forced to co-exist while humanity strips the stranded interstellar travelers of basic rights.

Mandy Patinkin played the first alien officer, while James Caan was his partner -- surly and racist, but ultimatley one who would come to accept and work with Patinkin's character. You can see echoes of this relationship in Almost Human years later.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the franchise is being developed to be tonally and presentationally similar to the recent Planet of the Apes reboot and that the first installment will deal with how the aliens got here.
