Ultimates

Multiversal March Madness' opening rounds continue! Though DC and Marvel Comics are breaking the piggy bank on their endless realities with events Convergence and Secret Wars later this spring, the bracket fever from the NCAA March Madness has our minds stuck on the tournament style crossover event.

Like we explained in our opening post (where you can vote on different battles), we're leaving to you to choose the winners in our own cross-company tournament. We're in throwing in a nifty secret prize for the players with a winning bracket. But enough chit-chat. It's time to get in the super-powered paint with the first round's final combatants.

Squadron Sinister Vs. The Ultimates

Squadron Sinsiter (Utopolis)

Stats: Home of the Squadron Supreme's evil adversaries, the Squadron Sinister, Utopolis is Marvel's thinly-veiled analog to the DC Universe. Led by Superma-cough-The Grandmaster, these roguish super beings have gone toe-to-toe with the Avengers for decades.

Strength: With the mantle of Marvel's ersatz Justice League comes the power-set. We're talking a team of Omega-level superhuman here, with powers and abilities mirroring Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern.

Weakness: And yet, as DC copycats, they are always destined to lose to any Marvel Universe. It's just the way the industry works, kids.

The Ultimate Universe (Earth 1610)

Stats: A modern-day update on the classic Avengers team, The Ultimates are a govnerment-sponsored force regulated by S.H.I.E.L.D. Featuring grounded, if somewhat flawed, reflections of the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Ultimates have stopped threats ranging from The Hulk to 616 Galactus himself.

Strength: These hard-boiled Avengers aren't afraid to get their hands dirty for the sake of the greater good. Even when their backs are against the wall, they always manage to scrounge their way to victory. Also, an ability to differentiate America from France (thank you, Mark Millar).

Weakness: Since these Avengers variants (generally) keep one foot in reality, they'd be horribly unprepared for a universe as fantastical and far-ranging as Utopolis'.

Which riff on a comics classic should advance to Round Two? Decide in the poll below!
