Benicio Del Toro is unsure if his character Taneleer Tivan, better known as The Collector, will return for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
"I would like to keep working on that character, though," Benicio Del Toro told IGN while promoting his upcoming role in the thriller Escobar: Paradise Lost. "It was kind of like a cameo. I would like to keep developing the character based on what's written in the comic books. I'd like to see some different sides. I had a blast working with James Gunn and the cast - but it's not up to me."
Gunn had previously said that The Collector was going to be a part of the sequel, but things can change. At the end of the last film, The Collector sat around his collection which had been mostly destroyed when Carina may the ill-fated decision to grab the Infinity Stone.
Del Toro spent a lot of time researching The Collector and knows which aspects of the character he'd like to explore from the comics. "One of the most interesting things that I learned about him is the reasons that he's collecting," he explained. "He sees himself as putting together Noah's Ark. He sees himself as having that responsibility. He's collecting things, because eventually there's going to be an apocalypse in the universe and he wants to get things to safety. That's a really interesting aspect of the character."
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will arrive in theaters May 5, 2017.
