With the new Fantastic Four reboot getting some of the worst reviews of any comic book movie in recent history — currently 9% on Rotten Tomatoes — director Josh Trank (Chronicle) took to Twitter to address the negative reviews.

Trank tweeted, "A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it. That's reality though." Of course, the tweet certainly seems to suggest that the director might have been dissatisfied with changes that were made to his film, presumably at the direction of 20th Century Fox.

A couple minutes after Trank made the tweet, he deleted it. However, as is often the case with Twitter, the tweet was screencaptured and is being retweeted. Fantastic Four opens in theaters around the U.S. tonight. While critic reviews of the film have been harsh, it's yet to be determined how the film will do at the box office.

A contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Fantastic Four hits theaters on August 7. You can see where its sequel, and other upcoming comic book movies, will fall here.
