James Bond fans do love to fantasy cast the next actor to play the role on screen, and that thought is becoming more relevant as current franchise star Daniel Craig sounds pretty exhausted after 10 years doing the job.

The Wire and Luthor star Idris Elba has been a popular fan choice for the next bond, but author Anthony Horowitz – who just wrote the new Bond novel Trigger Mortis – doesn't think Elba is right for the role.

"Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," Horowitz tells The Daily Mail. "For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It's not a color issue. I think he is probably a bit too "street" for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah."

Don't worry Elba fans, Horowitz doesn't actually have any say in the matter. He works from the estate of Bond creator Ian Fleming, which controls the book rights. Eon Production has complete control over the films.

Check out when the next bond movie, Spectre, and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com's Movie Release Schedule.
