Pacific Rim 2 Was Postponed But Not Canceled According To Guillermo Del Toro

While promoting his new film Crimson Peak, director Guillermo del Toro once again addressed The Hollywood Reporter's reports that the Pacific Rim sequel has been "Indefinitely halted." He reiterated that the film is not cancelled, just delayed due to budget and script issues that need to be ironed out.

"It's still going," del Toro told Screen Crush. "I don't think it will be my next movie, though. It was postponed. We're working on the budget. We're working on the screenplay. And I think the need was to send a budget and screenplay that fit. Once that is done, we'll know if it goes or not. For the moment, it's not canceled."

Guillermo will direct Pacific Rim 2, based on a script he wrote with screenwriter Zak Penn (Elektra, X-Men: The Last Stand). Jaeger pilots Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) will be back and so will scientists Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) and Dr. Hermann Gottlieb (Burn Gorman).

Film was scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017, but that date will have to be pushed back.
