The Amazing Spider-Man film franchise might be dead in the water, but according to filmmaker Drew Goddard his Amazing spinoff Sinister Six might still be alive.

"My vision of that movie was a summer annual," Goddard told io9 in a newly-released interview. "So you didn't have to worry about continuity. It was just, 'We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.' I intentionally wanted a movie that didn't have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, [laughs], it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think."

Sinister Six was scheduled to be released in movie theaters on November 11, 2016. It had been teased during the run-up, with The Vulture, Electro, The Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Doctor Octopus reportedly involved. Later rumors indicated that at least one of those characters would be excised to make room for Sandman, who was said in leaked Sony e-mails to be a major player.

Goddard said that, ironically, he loves the idea of moving Spidey into the Marvel Universe, but he just hopes that they can find a way to make "the giant, epic Spider-Man movie of my dreams."
