Take the previous single-day advanced sales box office record for IMAX screenings of any movie and multiply it by six. You still don't have the amount of money Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made in less than 24 hours of going on sale.

The new numbers coming in from IMAX state the film has already claimed $6.5 million worth of IMAX screenings in advanced tickets sales. The previous single-day advanced sales record for IMAX screenings was less than $1 million.

"The only words to describe the first day of IMAX worldwide advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Force Awakens are 'record-shattering'," said Greg Foster, senior executive VP, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. "We're seeing sell-outs across the board - from Hollywood to London, to Sparks, Nevada, and everywhere in between."

"The fan reaction to the latest trailer and demand for this film in IMAX is unprecedented and we couldn't be more excited to be a part of this phenomenon and share it with our partners at Disney, Lucasfilm, J.J. Abrams and the entire filmmaking team," Foster added.

The IMAX Force Awakens sales record, which accounts for 390 IMAX screens, is already more than many films make on over 1,500 screens on their opening night.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 18, 2015.
