The BBC has announced that the forthcoming Sherlock Christmas Special will be screened in theaters worldwide, including China.

Despite its name, the special – which returns Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) to the source material's original Victorian setting - still does not have an official airdate.

"It's not what you think," says Amanda Abbington, the actress who plays Mary Watson in the series, told RadioTimes of the special's mysterious plot. "People say the perfect thing was that Sherlock was modern day. But I know what's happened. There's more to this... Although I can say that it's great."

The report also added that Abbington will begin filming for Sherlock Series 4, a three-episode return to the show's usual modern day setting, in April.
