Lost In Space Remake Headed To Netflix

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! According to Deadline, Netflix outbid some stiff competition to get their hands on Legendary TV's Lost in Space remake.

They describe the new Lost In Space "as an epic but grounded science fiction saga focusing on a young explorer family from earth lost in an alien universe and the challenges they face in staying together against seemingly insurmountable odds."

In the past year, Dracula Untold screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have been developing the remake for Legendary Television. They'll serve as Executive Producers with Kevin Burns of Synthesis Entertainment, as well as Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig of Legendary TV-based Applebox. It is expect that Marshall will direct.

Lost in Space was originally created in 1965 by Irwin Allen and was set 30 years in the future (the far off 1997!), and followed the adventures of the Robinsons, a family of explorers whose ship is sabotaged and set off course, leaving them stranding in outer space. It ran for three seasons (83 episodes) on CBS before being cancelled. Fox, the studio that produced the series, put it into syndication where it became a cult classic.

The series has had a couple of not particularly successful attempts at revitalization since then, including a 1998 film starring Matt LeBlanc, William Hurt and Gary Oldman and a 2004 television movie that never made it out of production.
