Since the record-breaking opening weekend estimates for Star Wars: The Force Awakens were released by Disney yesterday morning, things have changed. This often happens with film, when Sunday doesn't play exactly the way they thought it would after Friday and Saturday's performance. What's less common is those numbers climbing significantly, but that's the case for this film, which doesn't seem to be able to do anything but break records. The official tally for domestic opening box office is $248 million - a new record by a mile.

The new official numbers include an all-time record Sunday of $60.55 million, to go with the all-time record Friday, Thursday preview, Opening day, Single day, and Opening weekend, not to mention the record pre-sales, record sales overall on Fandango, fastest to $50 million, and fastest to $100 million. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is doing well at the box office.

The new exact total number then is $247,966,675 in domestic box office for the opening weekend. That beats the six-month old record of Jurassic World's $208.8 million by about $40 million, around a 20% increase.

The expectation is that this record is nearly break-proof, or certainly won't be broken in the next 6 months, at least. That also includes the global opening weekend record, set at $529 million.
