Today we get a first look at some interior art from Civil War II, the upcoming Marvel event from Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, and Justin Ponsor. The two pages give us a glimpse at the characters that make up the two sides of the still undisclosed rift.

I’m a fan of Marquez’s work here as him and Ponsor are able to fit a ton of characters on the page without losing much detail, something that typically occurs when you have to cram so many characters into a single page.

Here is what editor Tom Brevoort had to say.

“David Marquez and [colorist] Justin Ponsor are poised to plus up the work they recently did with [writer] Brian [Michael Bendis] on INVINCIBLE IRON MANโ€”and if you saw what they did on that series, you have an inkling of the kind of game they’ll be bringing to bear on CIVIL WAR II,” says series editor Tom Brevoort. “As you can imagine, there’ll be a ton more characters in this project than there was in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, as can be seen on these pages from the first issue. This is just the tip of the iceberg.”

One of the biggest takeaways fro the image is the fact that you can clearly see multiple X-Men and Inhumans in the mix. The X-Men were notoriously absent (aside from Wolverine, who was an Avenger at the time) from the original Civil War, so I’m glad that they’ll have more of a role this time around.

Marvel’s Civil War II goes into full swing this may, with the Free Comic Book Day version of Civil War II #1.
