Sure, it’s probably a rare thing to happen to the cast members of AMC’s zombie drama, or maybe it only happened once, but even so, it did happen.

Aaron actor Ross Marquand appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and before taking the stage to offer up some Oscar acceptance speech impersonations, he shared a pretty funny story about getting to his friend’s wedding.

“We actually were doing the midseason premiere over my birthday over the summer and I actually had my buddy’s wedding to attend,” Marquand started to explain to Kimmel. “We were shooting all night long for two nights in a row and right around 7 in the morning I look at the clock and I said, ‘Oh my god, I have an 8:15 flight!’ I’m still just drenched in this stuff and I don’t know if I’m gonna make the flight.”

The race was on.

“On the last take, our director looked at us, Greg Nicotero, and he said, ‘Go!’ So, I ran to the van, tore off my clothes as fast as I could and drove to the airport just as fast as I could. I get through TSA surprisingly easy which I found a little disturbing,” Marquand goes on, but he was really cutting it close. “When I got to the gate they were shutting the gate. I said, ‘No, no, no, no! If you close the gate I’m gonna miss my buddy’s wedding!’”

Remember, he’s covered in blood, so the folks at the gate were looking at him like he was crazy. “So I’m like, ‘It’s okay, it’s not my blood!’” Marquand says. Probably not the best phrase to use in that situation.

Long story short, the supervisor had to come over to the gate and when she found out Marquand was a star on The Walking Dead, she was willing to open it and let him on board the plane in exchange for a selfie.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
