In Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Bruce Wayne we see is a bit weathered. He's seen some things and looks at Superman as a threat partly because of it.
Ben Affleck said (via Entertainment Weekly) "This is a Batman who has been at it for nearly two decades, and he's both tired and a little hopeless."
We see one such past issue in the trailer, when Bruce walks by a display in his Batcave housing a Robin costume, with the words "HAHAHA Jokes on you Batman" sprawled on via spray paint. The costume draws inspiration from a few versions of the character, including the muted color palette of the Arkham games, the shorts of the original Robin in the comics, and the staff and cape of Tim Drake.
Whether the Robin was indeed Tim, Dick Grayson, or Jason Todd remains to be seen, but Geoff Johns elaborates a bit on the subject, saying "We'll be exploring that. No one says specifically the name of which Robin that is."
While they are cramming an awful lot into this one film, I do love the idea of using these bits and pieces to flesh out future movies, just like Marvel has been doing. Hopefully, we won't have to wait until Ben Affleck's untitled Batman film (which currently sits way down the slate) to find out more.
