A couple of the criticisms falling upon Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is that is "isn't fun," and it's "too dark." Yes, some critics really are saying those thing.

It's no secret that Dawn of Justice is the setup for the the larger DC Comics movie universe, which already has two Justice League movies on its schedule for 2017 and 2019. When they arrive, they likely won't be hearing the same types of criticism. According to its producers and director, the Justice League spectacle won't be as dark and grim as Batman v. Superman is.

"Justice League is a little bit lighter because of some of these characters," Dawn of Justice producer Deborah Snyder started, before citing one hero as a specific example. "Flash tends to be more comedic."

"You have all these super heroes in the same movie and you get to see them all together, interact and fighting," the producer continues. "It's gonna be a really great spectacle. There's a really great bad guy who I'm not gonna discuss because I don't wanna give it away but there's a lot of really great things I think people will be looking for."

Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder seconds the producer's claims of a great villain, while also keeping the identity a secret. "It is a large threat as you could probably imagine," he says. "We definitely have a big and scary threat in store so that, also, is fun."

"One of the things that lightens it is having Flash or having characters that are more optimistic," the director says of the Justice League movies' tones. "[Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice] is, in particular, two characters that are sort of at a crisis of conscious which sort of draws them together."

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters this weekend.
