Collectible footwear meant to celebrate one of the most famous female action heroes in cinematic history predictably caused a stir today when Reebok only released replicas of Ripley’s alien stompers from Alien in men’s sizes.

The shoes were released as part of a celebration of Alien Day, which celebrates the franchise.
Rather than other similar recent dates, like Back to the Future day, which was a date actually used in one of the films, Alien Day’s date comes from LV-426, the moon where the xenomorphs are discovered in the 1979 film.
When the shoes were unveiled, they sold out fast…but not fast enough to keep fans from noticing that the sneakers based on fictional footwear designed for Sigourney Weaver was being sold only in men’s sizes 8-12.
A later statement from Reebok said that the shoes were being sold in unisex sizes. The showes were listed under “Men’s Classics” on the website, but it could be that the product simply needed a category listing.
“The Alien Stomper was mis-categorized on our US website as a men’s shoe due a technical error. While size availability varied by market, the Alien Stomper is a unisex style and was produced in sizes (US Men’s) 3.5 – 12, which is a typical size range for a unisex model,” said Reebok in a statement.
