Pokemon Go may be coming to McDonald’s.A recent datamine of the new Pokemon Go update conducted by redditors revealed a McDonald’s logo image hidden in the appdata for the game. The image suggests that Pokemon Go is planning some sort of partnership with the fast food chain to drive traffic to their 36,538 outlets around the world.

McDonald’s is already a partner of Nintendo and has teamed up with the video game company for Pokemon promotions in the past. McDonald’s is a “Nintendo Zone” that gives Nintendo 3DS players free access to any of their restaurant’s WiFi. In 2015, Pokemon players in the United States had to go to a McDonald’s location in order to obtain Hoopa, a Mythical Pokemon.McDonald’s also regularly runs Pokemon-themed Happy Meal toy campaigns and giveaways.
If McDonald’s was planning a promotion with Pokemon Go, it wouldn’t be the first time Niantic Labs has teamed up with a business. Jamba Juice paid to have all of its locations turned into Ingress Portals a few years ago, although those portals quickly disappeared when Jamba Juice’s sponsorship of Ingress ended. It’s possible that McDonald’s is planning a similar partnership, or they could be sponsoring a giveaway for a Legendary Pokemon or super-rare item, such as a Master Ball.
We’ll have to wait and see what Pokemon Go has in store in the coming weeks.
Pokemon Go is available in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Germany.
