The CW Is Developing New Series Based On The Lost Boys

One of television's leading networks is looking to add another show to its repertoire. According to The Wrap, it looks like CW is developing a new TV series based on The Lost Boys, a 1987 cult classic film about vampires.

The site is reporting Rob Thomas, iZombie's showrunner, will be penning the series' scripts and also executive produce alongside Danielle Stokdyk, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley. The show will be developed through Spondoolie Productions and Gulfstream Television in association with Warner Bros. Television since WB originally distributed the film.

Shot in California, The Lost Boys follows two brothers Michael and Sam as they become entangled with a gang of young and rebellious vampires. The film stars talent such as Jason Patric, Corey Haim, Kiefer Sutherland, and Corey Feldman as its leads. Writer Janice Fischer was first inspired to write The Lost Boys as she was fond of Peter Pan. She wondered what it would be like if Peter were a vampire, and the story grew from there. In the film's original script, most characters were named after Peter Pan characters, but those names were changed before The Lost Boys entered production. However, the film's title stands a very obvious reference to the famous tale.

Today, the film still stands as a defining piece of entertainment history that shaped how Western culture depicts vampires. The film's aesthetic was markedly different from traditional, gothic depictions of vampires and has helped following vampire flicks like Twilight find an audience.

As for CW's remake, the new series "will seek to tell a story spanning 70 years, each season taking place in one decade." The first season is said to be set in San Francisco during 1967, a famously turbulent era in American history. So far, there's no word on whether any original cast members from The Lost Boys will star in CW's remake or even when the show is set to air.

Still, fans seem to be excited about the show's revival. The original film was well-received by fans, and the movie's cult status has ensured that The Lost Boys would one day be found again by an all-new audience.
